Apple Monster Mouths

Trying to get kids to eat their fruits and vegetables is often difficult, but when they look at this appetizing creation, your children will make the healthy choice!  Perfect for an after-school snack or as an addition to any Halloween or birthday table.

 Green or red apples or an assortment of both (4 monster mouths per apple)
 Peanut butter or seed butter
 Sunflower seeds or slivered almonds
 Strawberry slices
 Fondant or Googly eyes *See note.

Cut your apples in quarters. Leave peels on. Place them in a bowl with lemon juice for 10 minutes. Drain and pat dry.

Cut off the core part from each apple.

Cut a small wedge out of the peel side of the apple. (See picture.)

Spread bottom of the opening with peanut or seed butter.

Embed either sunflower seeds or almond slivers in the top and bottom edges of the apple to make “teeth.” (See picture.)

Place a strawberry slice on the bottom half as a “tongue.”

Note:
As an alternative to the nut or seed butter, you can use strawberry preserves. If you choose this option, use half of a red or green grape as a tongue.
